Volunteer and Internship Programs

Volunteers work in various capacities throughout the agency; childcare, grocery shopping, client mentoring, academic tutoring, financial and employment coaching, tax preparation, shelter beautification, and special projects, including volunteering in our annual “holiday store” (decorating, stocking, wrapping gifts, and/or helping clients “shop” for their loved ones). While some volunteer positions do require specific training and qualifications, most do not require more than a personal commitment to helping others and working with clients with diverse needs and backgrounds. The required time commitment varies by volunteer opportunity.

1736 Family Crisis Center has a robust internship program. Interns are typically assigned to one of our confidentially-located shelters and primarily work with our children, in addition to gaining experience in regards to case management, staff duties and shelter administration. If you are a student seeking an internship, please complete the webform below and indicate your school and hours required.

1736 Family Crisis Center relies exclusively on donations and grants to financially support our programs. The Center is a private nonprofit corporation with IRS 501(c)(3) and California tax exempt status*. Donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Supervise and work with children at DV shelters during group sessions. Hours typically fall between 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Daytime hours also available. Not available at West LA/Culver City.
This volunteer will assist in administrative duties in one of our shelters which may include but not be limited to stocking, organizing, filing, as needed by shelter staff. Days/times needed will vary by shelter.
Provides school-age children with educational assistance and guidance. The hours are flexible.
Opportunities are wide-ranging, from one-on-one mentoring to presenting workshops to clients ranging from 10-17 years old.
